Please keep a stock and order further supplies via EMIS patient access in good time.
If you are collecting from the surgery, please allow 2 working days, for your request to be processed. If you have requested that your prescription be sent to a Pharmacy please allow 3-4 workings before collecting from your Pharmacy.
If you run out, we cannot release the duty doctor from more urgent tasks; please understand that for most long term medications, it is safe to leave them off for 48 hours. Our receptionists will only accept emergency scripts for medication that is dangerous to suddenly stop.
Do not ring our reception to check where your prescription is; you can check the progress of any script requested using the EMIS patient access. The system automatically updates once your script is issued.
PLEASE NOTE YOU CANNOT REGISTER FOR THIS SERVICE UNTIL YOU HAVE OBTAINED YOUR LOG IN DETAILS FROM THE SURGERY

Minor Surgery clinics are fitted in to the Dr. Thompsons or Dr. O’Dells clinics on days where we have plenty of capacity with other GP's. If you think you may need minor surgery please ask to see Dr. Thompson or Dr. O’Dell to review if you are suitable for this clinic you can then be placed on the Minor Surgery waiting list.

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
Travel Health Questionnaire
To help us offer the appropriate advice, please fill out the online form below, then call reception to book a telephone consultation with our nurse, then she can call you with the travel questionnaire to hand, and let you know what inoculations you may need.

For Musculoskeletal issues, for example, back and neck pain, sprains or strains, joint aches and pains, whiplash, sport injuries, The Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation and our GP's at Handbridge Medical Centre, recommend you book to see a Physio first and foremost.
Before the Physio First service was available patients would have long waits to be referred to see a Physiotherapist at the hospital, however with the new physio first scheme, you can book the appointment yourself, without having to wait to see a GP first, and without having to wait for your referral to be processed and having to wait in long waiting list.
Physio First clinics are held around different locations in our area, including, Lache Health Centre, Western Avenue Medical Centre, City Walls Medical Centre and The Countess of Chester Extended Hours. To book an appointment please contact our reception team.
For more information regarding the Physio First Service from our NHS Trust please click here.
Whilst many surgeries have long wait lists for Phlebotomy (blood test) appointments or do not even offer it in surgery, Handbridge Medical Centre offers phlebotomy clinics on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday morning. We are proud that usually we have phlebotomy appointments available within 2 weeks, as many surgeries are unable to facilitate this.
Our phlebotomy clinics are held either by our Health Care Assistants, or fully qualified Phlebotomists. Our Phlebotomy clinics run no later than 11.30am as all of our patients samples (including urine/stool and sputum samples) are collected at 12pm by the Countess of Chester to go to their lab for testing.
If patients are looking for a later blood test appointment or unable to attend one of our clinics, The Countess of Chester offers a walk in facility for patients to have their bloods taken (this is located by Outpatients 3) open Monday - Friday, 7.30am – 5.50pm.
The walk in facility works by 'taking a number' and waiting until you're called, if you're concerned about waiting you can now even book ahead online for Countess phlebotomy appointments at: www.coch.nhs.uk/blood-test-booking
Our patients can also book for Phlebotomy appointments at the Extended Hours service (at Countess of Chester or Ellesmere Port Hospital) these are available from 6.30pm - 9.00pm, please call our Reception Team to book with the Extended Hours service or call them direct on 0300 123 7743.
Arranging a suitable phlebotomy appointment has never been easier!
